Stanford University researchers have made a major discovery, notebook battery can run once a day or even longer.
Researchers have found a way to make lithium-ion battery storage of electricity increased by 10 times, which may be a laptop battery life from the current four hours to 40 hours.
This new battery is assistant professor Yi Cui and Stanford University in Materials Science and Engineering
Colleagues developed. Cui said that this is not a minor, but a revolutionary improvement.
Cui said the increase in battery capacity due to a use of a new type of silicon nanowire anode. Traditional lithium-ion batteries use graphite as the anode, the anode can be attached which limits the number of lithium ions, and thus limits the laptop Battery life.
Cui, in its paper that the silicon anode has the highest theoretical charge capacity, but when the charge will increase the size of silicon, the use of Shique is reduced, which can damage the silicon anode, affect battery performance. In the past 30 years, this issue has not been resolved.
Cui and his colleagues studied the issue and through the use of silicon nanowires anode and solve this problem. Cui made the anode, the lithium-ion stored in a miniature silicon nanowire "forest", each the diameter of the root of silicon nanowire is only about one-thousandth the thickness of the paper. In the storage of lithium ions, the size of silicon nanowires will be expanded to four times the original, but in the past silicon anode is different is that it will not be damaged.
Cui said, to make the technology for commercial production there are some difficulties to overcome. He said, during our research, expand the scale of our technology to assess the costs.
Cui has filed a patent of this technology, and consider setting up a company or an agreement with the notebook battery manufacturer. He expects the products using the technology in the "next few years" sale.
